Getting Started: LiteSpeed

October 31, 2012 at 1:58 PM

Here at GeekStorage, we love LiteSpeed! There are many good reasons for this, not the least of which is LiteSpeed's fantastic PHP performance. Not only is LiteSpeed an amazing web server, it is also very easily configured via an online GUI, making the setup process very user friendly. This article will demonstrate how to get started with a basic LLMP setup on your VPS or Dedicated server.

LiteSpeed

What you will need:

  • A Linux-based VPS or Dedicated Server. We recommend our blazing fast SSD VPS service. Combined with LiteSpeed, it's on a whole new level of speed.
  • Familiarity with the Linux console. Check out our SSH tutorial if you are new to Linux or the console.
  • A need for speed!
  • (Optional) We recommend using CentOS 5.x or 6.x to follow along with this guide

We will be using the LiteSpeed Standard Edition for this setup. It is completely free and supports up to 5 domains and 150 concurrent connections. While lacking some of the more powerful features of the Enterprise Edition, it is a great platform for a development environment due to its ease of setup and speed.

Take the Headache Out of Sending Email

October 1, 2012 at 4:37 PM

Email is one of the oldest internet services still around today, and many of us rely on it to do our work, keep in touch with our friends, and get our daily news. Unfortunately, email is also one of the most often misconfigured services running on servers today.  A number of factors are at play when email is sent & received, sometimes causing email transaction problems to be difficult to debug. Luckily, there are just five quick steps to get your email functioning more reliably with your VPS or Shared Hosting service.

Five Quick Steps for Email Sanity

It might sound absurd, but you can really go a long way with just five quick steps. For cPanel users, these steps can be completed in a matter of minutes. It really is something everyone should do, and we encourage these steps for all of our users reporting email problems. Nine times out of ten, we find that these five steps could have prevented problems before they made it to the support desk.

GeekStorage Updates - September 2012

September 24, 2012 at 3:51 PM

Hi Geeks!

It's been a busy month for us here at Geek Storage! I just wanted to take a moment to let you know what we've been doing and what to look forward to. :)

SSD VPS

Within the next week, we'll be releasing our new SSD-based Xen VPS. We already offer some blazing fast VPS, powered by 15K SAS drives, however these SSD VPS will be screeeaaaming fast!

The plans and pricing for the new SSD-based VPS will be slightly changed. Each SSD "chunk" will have 12 GB of HDD, instead of 10 GB, and will be at a slightly higher price point per chunk (due to the increase in hardware costs). They will still, however, be a tremendous value and be extremely fast!

Keep checkin in, we're looking to release this new VPS lineup within just a few days.

cPanel Conference 2012

We have been cPanel Partners for many years now and we're looking forward to this year's annual conference in October.

A couple of us are heading south to Houston, Texas on Oct. 9-10, 2012 for the 2012 cPanel Conference. If you are a resident of Houston and want to come to the cPanel Conference or just want to meet up with us for a beer, please let me know by firing off an e-mail to headgeeks[at]geekstorage.com!

Our new wall sign!

We recently hung our new wall sign at our headquarters in Norman, Oklahoma. It's shiny and I just wanted to show it off. :)

If you are ever in the Norman, Oklahoma area, stop by and see us!

Regards,
Jay

Customer Satisfaction Survey Results

September 10, 2012 at 12:13 PM

Hello Geeks,

I would first like to thank everyone who participated in our customer survey last month. The survey ran for 30 days and had a response rate of approximately 13.5%.

We are very happy to see feedback from our users and their comments regarding our service. We've received a lot of really great ideas and suggestions, some of which we've already implemented. We really do like to hear from you -- your feedback is what helps know what we're doing right and/or wrong and what we should add and/or change.

Contest Drawing

This survey featured a contest where participants could opt-in for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to ThinkGeek. Of everyone who took the survey, 91.5% opted into the contest. The winner of the contest was J. Wiater! Congratulations!

What Type of Web Hosting is Right for You?

August 20, 2012 at 10:38 AM

With the ever increasing popularity of VPS hosting, we receive questions all of the time from prospective geeks asking us to explain the difference between virtual private servers (VPS) and shared hosting. They want to know what the differences are and what would be right for them. I am going to share with you what I share with them and, hopefully, these insights will help you with your decision.
