This article will describe how to create private or custom name servers.

Creating Private Name Servers

If you registered your domain at GeekStorage:

  • You can create custom nameservers in the GeekStorage Account Portal.
    • Select Manage next to your domain in the Domains area of the account portal.
    • At the very bottom of the domain management page, select the "Manage Custom Nameservers" link.
    • You can enter the desired subdomain (such as "ns1" for "ns1.yourdomain.com") into the left field, and the associated IP address into the right field.
    • Once you have your changes ready, click Submit to save the new settings for your private nameservers.

If you registered your domain elsewhere:

  • You will need to login to the domain management website of your domain's registrar.
    • Using the 2 Dedicated IP Addresses allocated to your account, create two private (custom) name servers for your domain.
      • Common DNS addresses are: ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com
    • We have several online video tutorials available that show you how to create private (custom) domain name servers at popular domain registrars (click here to view the tutorials).
  • After you have created your domain, you will then need to update your domain's name servers to use your newly created name servers.
